Mad for Janie Bryant

February 4, 2011

The mastermind behind the showstopping looks we see every week on Mad Men, costume designer Janie Bryant was at the Carlu on Thursday night for a ’60s Classic Cocktail Soiree hosted by the LCBO. Media types were out in droves in the decade’s finest styles to mingle & enjoy the Moscow Mules & Rusty Nails (gimlets were noticeably absent… as was Don Draper) and ’60s-inspired appetizers.

Bryant wore a gorgeous Venetian-style tomato red dress by St John and sky-high shimmering gold Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels. She had a 15-minute Q+A with the MC before entering the crowd to mingle, and with a hint of a Southern drawl in her voice, she was genuine, gracious and just plain nice. The moment she knew she’d made it? When friends called and said they saw Don Draper and Pete Campbell costumes walking down the street on Halloween night.

Bryant also has a fashion & style book out now, The Fashion File – if you haven’t checked it out yet you should, it rules. Without a doubt the woman knows what she’s talking about. She’s filled this fabulous book with tips about how to dress for your shape + your personality, and tons of beauty tips – all Mad Men inspired.

Now, kick back and enjoy the drink of the night at home with this simple recipe:

The Moscow Mule

2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
4 oz Ginger Beer (or Ginger Ale)
Lime Wedge

Pour the Vodka and lime juice into an ice-filled highball glass. Top with Ginger Beer and stir. Squeeze the lime wedge over the drink and drop it in.
