This week has felt like a whirlwind, and as much as I like all the friends and fun that this entails, I don’t like it all moving so quickly.
I didn’t go in to MTV on Wednesday or Thursday, so I had a mid-week weekend. Normally, I am a big fan of the mid-week weekend but it makes time go by way too quickly! I must be getting older, because the idea of wanting to rush through life is becoming less and less appealing. I remember being 13 and wishing I was 16, being in highschool and wishing I was in university, being in university and wishing I could start my career; well, now I am at that point and all I want is to do is go back, and have life just slow down a little bit.
The wonderful Amos the Transparent was playing with The Reason on Wednesday night, and this was actually the first time I saw Amos live (such a bad friend). They put on such a great show!! I am kind of bummed that I missed out on about eight opportunities to see them in the past year alone… I am always the last one to jump on the bandwagon. Shame on me.
We closed the bar that night, and for anyone that has never been to the Bovine I suggest you go merely for their hella strong drinks. Considering I am used to the overly-diluted and overpriced drinks courtesy of most Toronto establishments, I was impressed with this little perk to a not very impressive looking bar. I ended the night at a friend’s house, pulling a very-late-nighter; the random plans and last-minute kind of nights are definitely a favourite of mine.
Amos was back in town on Friday. They came in playing on a train! Yes. You heard me. Playing on a train. So we all indulged in a few drinks at an old friend’s house before heading to a party. Records were spun, mouths sang, feet danced, friendships and side-project bands were formed, and everyone stayed up much too late. Whiskey, for once, treated me pretty well that night.
On Saturday night my friend was DJing at the Drake, so we had a little pre-party-bbq before heading to Queen West and getting our dance on. This little party lasted forever and by the time we left for the bar we were already so tired. My best friend and I had one drink each before we cabbed right back to her place, then a few bites of Indian food later and we were passed out hard in her bed. Since when can I not go out three times in one week??
So, basically, the week just flew by and, while some people may like it that way, a huge part of me feels like it flashed by in the blink of an eye. Life needs to slow down; I am enjoying it too much!
Here’s to a new era. One where I wish for nothing but the moment.
