Tweet Tweet

I had to join Twitter for a class I am taking. It’s “online media” so we are encouraged to join all these newsfeed and networking type sites.

I was hesitant and skeptical at first. After all, all it consists of are constant “status updates” of the people you are following. So, it’s like Facebook, minus everything that’s good about Facebook. Everyone in my class seemed to be following CBC, BBC, CNN, and other news outlets… all of which wrote updates every 2 minutes all day. Yawn.

I will acknowledge that it has its uses… during the bombings in Mumbai a few months ago, reporters weren’t allowed to file from there (if memory serves me correctly), so they relied on Twitter. All the news reports following the crisis during that time grew out of information provided on Twitter updates. Pretty damn cool.

Anyways, as of late I have become a little obsessed with the site now. I admit, it has grown on me. I realized I could vamp up my profile to show a little more of my personality, AND I discovered that many celebrities use Twitter. And, yes, it’s really them! Oh the excitement! You don’t even understand. It’s like getting a glimpse into Whitney Port’s or Gerard Butler’s day-to-day life.

My favorite Tweet? Shia LaBeouf. Innane commentary, vain remarks, and nonsensical questions make up the bulk of his updates.

Now if only I could get Jay Baruchel on there…

psst add me if you are on Twitter: @AmandaWenek
